TCAT Elizabethton Placed Under Lockdown After Reports of Threats

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. — The TCAT Elizabethton campus was placed under a precautionary lockdown Thursday following reports that an individual had made threats to shoot up the campus, prompting a significant law enforcement response.

The campus initially issued an urgent alert instructing students and staff to immediately shelter in place.

“TCAT Elizabethton is on lockdown. Please move to a designated lockdown position and shelter in place immediately! This is not a drill.”

Moments later, the campus released an updated safety statement clarifying that there were no reports of an active shooter at the time.

“The TCAT Elizabethton campus is currently under a precautionary lockdown. At this time, there are no reports of an active shooter. Please avoid the campus area until further notice and allow responding personnel to conduct their duties.”

According to information provided by law enforcement, the lockdown followed reports that an individual had made threats to shoot up the campus. Authorities responded to investigate the credibility and circumstances surrounding the threat.
